Case Study > Alfred University 9/11 Benefit Art Auction

Problem:
Students and faculty at Alfred University School of Art and Design felt helpless after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. A group of four art students organized a benefit art auction to bring the Alfred community together. The students noticed that many families had their lives disrupted by the loss of their daily routines including their jobs. Much money was already being raised for many emergency needs, but little was being done to help those people who needed to find new jobs. To this end, the students chose to donate art auction proceeds to the New York City Central Labor Council, a non-profit organization representing labor unions in New York City. The auction needed a promotional poster.

Solution:
“Going once...going twice...going to a good cause” was the headline and the rallying call to raise money for the New York City Central Labor Council. Over two hundred fifty pieces of art work were donated by students and faculty. Four hundred details of student and faculty work make up the mosaic representing both the actual art work as well as the coming together of the Alfred community.

Results:
The Alfred University student and faculty benefit art auction raised over $17,000 for the New York City Central Labor Council.
